Novelty Cakes and Modelling

A comprehensive morning of cake decorating with Anna Adams from Kintbury’s The Kennet House Cake Company .  This is a packed half-day course to introduce you to multiple techniques which will really enhance your birthday cakes.  We’ll provide all of the ingredients and equipment required, and take you step by step through producing your own show-stopping cake. We will keep up your energy levels with tea, coffee and cakes throughout the morning and you’ll take home your boxed cake at the end. You will work with a dummy cake which will mean your masterpiece can be kept for reference and display.
Techniques covered:
  • How & when to work with fondant, modeling paste and flower paste
  • Wrap method for covering cakes
  • Texturing fondant for novelty cakes
  • Colouring and strengthening fondant for modelling
  • Creating edible sugar figures
  • Creating more advanced sugar figures and embellishments using hidden support
  • Personalised letters and numbers without cutters.
  • Tips, tricks and techniques for taking your birthday cakes to the next, more professional level
  • Timetabling, getting ahead and general tips to fit a novelty cake into your busy life.

Course timings:
  • Arrive at 9.30am for tea and coffee and course introduction.
  • Course comes to a close at 1.30pm.
No previous experience is required, and we think that even experienced decorators will pick up some new tips.

Places are limited to ensure we can devote time individually to mastering these techniques.
